The City of Houston’s Health and Human Services department is seeking a Communications Specialist to join their team! You will help develop media content for the community health education program and proofread and edit all content to post on various Social Media platforms. Communications Specialist’s Responsibilities
- Develop culturally and linguistically appropriate multimedia content for community health education messaging, including artwork, illustrations, print collateral, photography, audio, and video.
- Perform basic typesetting, layout and design, paste-up, and other camera-ready processing operations; Proofread and edit on camera-ready work.
- Handle equipment maintenance, supply inventory, and delivery or routing of printer materials; Aid departmental volunteers and other department employees.
- Write, edit, and proofread copy for printed materials and television.
- Coordinate shooting and production, responsibilities of the video cameraman, production and postproduction of videos.
Communications Specialist’s Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in art, design, communications, typography, or a closely related field is required.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in media, public relations, art, or a closely related field is required.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred but not required.
- Experience with content management with Social Media Platforms (i.e., Twitter, Flickr, Snapchat, YouTube, etc.) and Adobe Creative Suite is required.
- Must have a Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
