Job responsibilities of the electrical design engineer include:
  • Prepare design documentation and schedules
  • Provide design of electrical systems, including lighting, power, and communications systems
  • Perform calculations, sizing, and analysis of electrical systems for buildings
  • Investigate code requirements
  • Ensure the preparation and timely delivery of accurate, complete, and value-added documents
  • Assist with construction administration tasks by processing drawings, RFIs, and completing site visits during the construction phase
  • Serve as a liaison between clients, agencies, subcontractors, and the design team
 
Qualifications of the electrical design engineer include but are not limited to:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
 
What to expect as an electrical design engineer:
  • Starting pay of $80,000 per year may increase based on experience
