Employee Relations Specialist Direct Hire
$65,000 - $70,000 | Louisiana Street
Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm

We are seeking a personable, experienced Mid-Senior Level Employee Relations Specialist to join a growing and busy nonprofit organization in Houston using strategies, implementation, and execution of major programs, policies, and performance to support a local nonprofit organization.  This DIRECT HIRE role establishes and develops trusted relationships with Agency Leadership, Human Resources Representatives and employees through various duties and responsibilities. The main responsibilities include handling grievances, investagations and escalating cases. Bilingual is preferred, but not required.
   
Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Act as a liaison between employees and Human Resources with disciplinary, grievance, benefits, and leaves of absence guiding and supporting both leaders and employees 
  • Coach and advise departmental leadership in carrying out their responsibilities on employee relations matters
  • Maintain all HR/employee personnel related to employee relations
  • Work directly with employees in the organization to explore and assist in determining options to help resolve conflicts and problematic issues
  • Assist and guide managers and employees on a broad range of Human Resource policies, programs, and
  • practices.
  • Lead employee relations groups such as employee focus groups, and improvement teams to ensure effective and positive relationships 
  • Provide case management services for employee complaints, appeals, and investigations
  • Craft strategies to resolve personnel issues and minimize the adverse personnel impact of proposed business realignment
  • Provide tactical and strategic consulting and development strategies
  • Counsel staff regarding employee relations, policy interpretation, and ways to improve the investigations and terminations
  • Drive the development of HR-related strategies and ensure implementation and execution
  • Interpret and communicate policies and policy changes as required.
  • Suggest ways to improve the team’s effectiveness and build positive relationships
  • Coach senior leadership on policies, contracts, agreements, procedures, and local, state, civil rights laws and federal laws
  • Provide support and guidance for redundancy policies, staffing, and outsourcing
  • Review the performance management process including goal setting, continuous feedback,
  • performance calibration sessions, performance discussions and development planning
  • Make recommendations regarding wage, salary, and incentive decisions
  • Act as a liaison between HRIS, Compensation, Talent Acquisition, and leadership
  • Utilize employee feedback regarding onboarding, exit interview, employee engagement, etc.
  • Facilitate New Hire Orientation and training programs
  Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Two (2) –  Five (5) years of experience in Human Resources handling employee relations
  • Professional certification SHRM CP/SCP or HCI  PHR/SPHR upon hire or within 12 months of hire
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills 
  • High degree of discretion and commitment to confidentiality
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong consultative skills are required to identify strategic objectives and to design/ lead of market-based solutions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience working with HRIS systems
  • Background check-criminal, Education Verification, Employment verification and drug panel will be performed 
  • Bilingual preferred but not a requirement
