Duties for Machine Operator:
Set up and operate a variety of machines and tools to produce precision parts and instruments.
Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures.
Calculate dimensions and tolerances.
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines.
Select the appropriate tools, machines and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
Requirements for machine operator:
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques.
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
