Direct Hire Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Ohio / South Carolina.
Hours: 8 am – 4:30 pm.
Job Summary: Work involves the design and detailing of equipment used in the production and processing of steel including casters, ladles, furnaces, roof assemblies, water cooled ducts, lifting devices, charging buckets, tilt platforms and work platforms. Designs will require analysis including Finite Element Analysis, beam analysis, heat transfer, water flow, center of gravity calculations using standard engineering methodology as well as in-house standard calculations. Working as part of a team, projects will require interfacing with customers, sales engineers, project managers, other members of the engineering group and field service staff. The position reports directly to the Engineering Manager. Depending on the project, engineering staff will report to the position on a technical basis but not in a supervisory role. This job will start in Brecksville, OH for one year, then relocate to Florence South Carolina. Relocation package will be available at the time of move.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare 3-D models using SolidWorks software for customer required equipment based on specifications developed by the customer and company staff.
  • Prepare detailed drawings using SolidWorks for approval by the customer based on standards established by Superior Machine Company. Provide detailed drawings to fabricate, machine and build the equipment.
  • Prepare accurate Bills of Material for all components, both internal manufactured as well as purchased components.
  • Provide all necessary design calculations to ensure that the design meets all the customers and in-house requirements.
  • Properly store and document all models/drawings/calculations to ensure the data is available to all members of the company.
  • Actively participate and conduct design reviews both for the customer and in-house staff to ensure the design meets all the requirements.
  • Assist in preparing proposal documents, presentations for customers and calculations to aid the sales and project manager teams.
  • Provide process documentation to support the needs of the manufacturing group.
  • Needs supervision experience and skills.
  • Ability to work as a team leader and forward think the possibilities of the project.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Experience with large structures and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of steel making equipment is preferred.
  • Travel less than 15% of the time required to visit customers or equipment suppliers.
  • The position will work with all facets of the company including engineering, sales engineering, project management, purchasing, and manufacturing.
Professional Skills:
  • Knowledge of 3-D software; SolidWorks, Inventor, Pro/E, or Solid Edge required.
  • Experience with FEA programs; Simulation, Ansys, Nastran, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project required. 
  • P.E. License in the area of Machine Design is preferred. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
