JOB SUMMARY The Engineering, Test Lab WeldingTechnician provides support for the overall product testing program, and test lab activities. This position interfaces closely with all members of the Test Lab Team. This individual ensures that welding and pipefitting work complies with all safety, quality and technical standards. Perform all tasks according to Test Lab requirements. Resolve technical questions and issues associated with welding and pipefitting operations. Interface with internal customers to ensure satisfaction.
REPORTING STRUCTURE The Engineering, Test Lab WeldingTechnician is part of the Engineering Department and reports to the Team Leader, Product Test and bears full responsibility for agreed upon goals and objectives.
Support activities relating to the new valve test lab project.
Interact with contractors on projects.
Apply knowledge of ASME and AWS welding codes.
Perform welding on thin and thick walled low carbon steel and stainless steel metal tubing and pipe.
Perform welds in all positions, sometimes with limited access.
Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, etc.
Shall be able to set up equipment required to perform the task.
May be required to operate lift truck, hand truck, hoisting equipment and scissor lift to move materials or perform welding and pipefitting operations.
Demolition and reinstallation/fabrication of water/glycol filled test equipment.
Develop and implement safety improvements.
Optimize and plan the maintenance of the engineering lab and equipment.
Develop test equipment and lab fixtures as required.
Collaborate with engineering technicians.
Maintain a clean and orderly test lab.
Other duties will be assigned as required within the Test Lab facility.
Organize hot work permits as required.
Utilize smoke mitigation equipment at all times
Technical High School or equivalent degree
Minimum of 10 to 15 years of related welding and pipefitting experience in a similar position.
Must be able to understand and use the tools of the trade.
Candidate must be able to perform tasks with little or no supervision.
ASME SMAW, MIG and GTAW qualifications required.
Rotary machine welding is a plus.
General computer skills including Microsoft Office
